Hello! I am Rick Tan and I had the pleasure of designing the logo for Vintigue Marketplace. When Shayne and CJ Kaialoa contacted me to help them design their website and logo, I immediately perused through their Facebook page before agreeing to take on the project. I had to know what I was getting myself into!
I read CJ's bio about her passions as a craftsperson and setting her dreams aside to focus on family. It struck a chord with me as an artist and father. It is not easy balancing life with our loved ones and the need for self-fulfillment, but it all feeds the soul. And the soul of an artist is insatiable, verging on obsessive! As a graphic artist, that can be a challenge to appease a client with an exacting eye, but I found a kindred sipirt, and I agreed! I loved CJ and Shayne's story, their work, and the chance to create something to reflect their brand identity. I wanted the look of the logo to resemble a woodworker's branding iron mark, like you would find on artisan quality wood furniture and wares. The first iteration began with a circle, but the design and font weren't quite right. I removed the circle and used the scroll shape as the main design, playing with the company's name, but that wasn't quite right either. For CJ and Shayne, it wasn't easy to pin down the look, so the process was organic, and expected - this is how it works. The logo you see here is the third iteration, and got the thumbs up from CJ! The circle shape and solid colors keep the logo neat and simple for social media applications, the font suggests vintage era, and the custom scroll design is based on wood appliques on rococo furniture, an element that gives the logo its personality. I was thrilled to work with the couple on the logo - I am proud of it and love it! -Rick Tan
